Black Friday is the blackest day of the year
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009I will not be shopping on Black Friday. I will be silently protesting by staying home and stuffing my face full of left over pie. This is 10 years of retail talking. When I started out in retail Black Friday started at 10 am (maybe 9 am) and went to 10 pm. Now it goes from midnight to midnight and people get trampled to death over Walmart sweaters. No lie.
So I will share a retail secret with you; the deals are not better on Black Friday. Retailers just want you to think they are so that you will spend more money thinking that there won’t be another deal like this so you have to get the $999.99 flat screen TV even though you are already $40,000 in debt; when will you have another opportunity to get a flat screen? Or the micro fleece jacket is only $5 so who cares if it is flammable or ugly or won’t last more than 1 day, it is only $5!
So if you do choose to go shopping on Black Friday take a moment to look around you at those poor workers who didn’t really get to enjoy their Thanksgiving holiday because they had to be there at 11 pm to set up for you to buy that wine cork and you don’t even drink wine but it is only $2 if you spend $400.
OK, OK, OK, what I am really trying to say is:
DON’T SHOP ON BLACK
FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy the day. Stay home and soak in the holiday. Go running and work off the glutinous binge from the day before. You will save some money and have better memories. The sales and the fake shearling boots that are $15 will be there for you on Saturday.

I am so with you on this. I did the Black Friday shopping one time by myself and came home so angry because people are so rude and horrible. I swore NEVER AGAIN will I do that and I haven’t since then. I look forward to sleeping in and spending the day with my boys!
I have never been shopping on black friday. I would rather pay more than full price than get tampled on by deal hungry crazies. But I do want a new flatscreen TV.
