Baby Steps

I went jogging for the first time in a extremely long time.  Note:  I say jogging not running, there is a difference but maybe I should call it shuffling.  Someone could have walked next to me at their normal pace.

I went for 20 minutes knowing I need to start out slow.  One minute into it I was thinking “WOW, I feel great, this is going to be a nice, easy 20 minutes.  Maybe I will even go for longer.”  Three minutes in and I am looking at my watch wondering how much longer I have left.  My lungs and throat were on fire and my lips felt like they were the size of sausages.  My goal was to just keep jogging and not walk.  My chant was “Baby steps to the red car, baby steps to the telephone pole, baby steps to the oak tree.”  And they were literally baby steps, I did look like Bob (What About Bob).  It was an extremely hard 20 minutes and 47 seconds but I did it and I didn’t walk.
I have to go again today so that the pain was not a waste.  So 20 minute jogs this week and maybe next week 21 minute jogs but we’ll see.

  1. You’re amazing. I think it’s so hard to find the energy to exercise, especially while breastfeeding.

  2. Good job! Did you take Eva in the jogging stroller? Maybe I’ll join you and do 20 minutes too. Maybe I’ll start tomorrow morning. Once around the park takes me about 20 minutes, cause I’m really slow. Maybe I’ll wake up early tomorrow and do it. Maybe.
