Mama Mia and Friends
Friday, July 18th, 2008
So while everyone was dressing up in their favorite Batman outfits and going to the new Batman movie, me and my friends went to the midnight showing of Mama Mia last night. I was with my old (meaning long time) friends Tami and Mary and we went to dinner and then went to check out show times. It was 8:30 and nothing was really worth seeing until we saw Mama Mia scheduled for 11:59. Tami has seen the play a lot and really wanted to see the movie so we thought why the heck not. We just had to find something to do for the next 3 1/2 hours.
So we went shopping and then stuffed our faces full of good desert. I have never heard of cookie dough pie but it exists and why you would ever eat any other kind of pie after having it is beyond me. Then we sat in front of the theatre and talked for a while. During this long bonding moment I shared a deep dark secret which was that that I watch the reality show Tori and Dean in Hollywood or Tami shared it and I admitted that I too watched it but I can’t remember, it was all a blur since I was so excited find someone that watched it too and that I wasn’t a freak. So we both admitted that we are curious to read her new book so right then and there we started a book discussion group. There are only 3 of us so I don’t know if we get the “Book Club” status. Doesn’t only Oprah’s Book Club get that status? With all of her power I’m sure she charges her followers a large fee to use the term. Anyways, our first book is sTORI TELLING and Mary is good enough to go along but with the promise that she can pick the next book.
And now the long awaited review of Mama Mia: Entertaining, funny, and thoroughly embarrassing! For those of you who don’t know it is a musical (what do you live in a cave???) so it is corny and over acted which makes it really funny. The costumes are fun the music is of course great and there is a little bit of dirty humor which makes it all the better. The only really painful part is when Peirce sings. It is not good but his first song is a duet so you think,”It’s okay” but it’s not because then he sings a solo and it is so painful I had to avert my eyes and giggle to let all around me know that I didn’t think it was good. But all in all very fun and Tami, who loves it and has seen the play a few times said it was just like the play.
I had a fun night and after I thought how great my friends are.
You know that you have good friends if:
- They new you in high school when you thought the ‘F’ bomb was cool so you used it a lot and flashing was used to get attention but not respect.
- They still like you and are excited to see you even if you move away and you don’t talk to them for four years.
- They aren’t hurt if you forgot their second child’s name or didn’t know it
- They know all your dark and dirty secrets and they still like you
- They watch you grow up and change into a different person and they still think you are great.
- They don’t demand explanation of your choices
- They are willing to read Tori Spellings book for you
Thanks Tami and Mary! I had a great time last night.

I LOVE Tori and Dean! I TiVo it religiously, and I have skimmed her book. I think you and I are Internet soul mates, except for the fact that I have no desire to see “Mama Mia.” Although, it does have Mr. Darcy in it, so I may have to make an exception.
And I have my bat suit all ready to go for tonight!
I don’t know what you’re talking about…I still drop the F bomb and flash people all the time. Are you saying you’re maturing faster than I am?
Tami, can I just say, you always make me laugh. I love to read your blog, your writing makes me laugh. I also have watched Tori and Dean. After I watched the SCUBA episode, I have been wanting to get SCUBA certified, I’ve always been afraid of it. See, it’s really an inspiring show, helps you to confront your fears. I’m glad you told about Mama Mia, I’ve never seen the show, and didn’t even really know what it was about. WOw, a novel today.
OK, jess is right. I still drop the ‘F’ bomb quite a bit but mostly when I am alone to keep up the facade that I am an amazing put together, in control person. And I haven’t flashed in a while but I will do it for any of you girls upon request and depending if I am wearing a sexy bra for you. But no boys anymore, I am a married woman I have a little respect now.
Tammy, who needs flashing when you can stand buck naked on your balcony, doing a little dance for your neighbors to see? Might as well go for the whole shebang.
Tammy, I had to laugh. I was reading the blog of a friend of a friend, who I swear the woman from Seriously, So Blessed gets her material, and she was talking about the movie. She said that it had way too much sexual innuendo, and she wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, unless you wanted to feel dirty. I almost recommended she see Wanted.
Cool… like your style.
