Playing House

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Today I took care of my two nephews. My sister is on a cruise with her husband. I get to sleep at her house tonight and watch the kids until tomorrow night. Heber is 3 3/4 and Gabe is 1 1/2. They have been sick so they have been taking some medicine. When my mom dropped them off with me she gave me a whole page about how to administer it to them. It was quite confusing but I think they got the right stuff. She did call to see if they were still alive, I didn’t answer just to worry her. One medicine is that really good pink bubble gum stuff. I loved that when I was little, it was the best part about being sick.

Well, I have just put them to bed and I am looking forward to the movies I rented. I am either the best or worst aunt, here is how our night went.

  • Got the kids and went to Smith’s and bought mini M&M’s and a popcorn tube as tall as me.
  • Got to the house to find mini M&M’s smashed all over the car seat and hands.
  • Got the kids in the house, cleaned their hands and started unloading the car. When I was done I found mini M&M’s smashed on the floor and walked all over and stuck to the bottom of shoes and on hands again.
  • Popcorn tube has now become a bench for the two kids. It is apparently really funny to hear the sound of crushing popcorn.
  • Once everything is settled I start looking for food and find there is none. Heber insists that we can eat pepperoni and eggs for dinner but I talk him out of it.
  • Load the kids back in the car and head off for, guess where, ‘Donald’s or, yes it is twice in a month for me now, McDonald’s.
  • Get the kids chicken nuggets and to keep on the healthy side apple slices with carmel dipping sauce and root beer. Get me two cheese burgers with fries and the best drink HI-C Orange!
  • Get home to eat and turn on Finding Nemo as our entertainment. Down my burgers in 3 bites each and stuff the fries in my mouth while getting the kids to eat the apples by covering them in carmel. Gabe actually does eat all his nuggets and Heber eats 3. I feel very satisfied with myself and wonder what can be so hard about getting kids to eat, then I remember we are eating junk food.
  • Get the kids in their pajamas and administer the medicine. After they take it I feed them M&M’s and give them a drink of root beer to get rid of the nasty medecine taste.
  • Finish watching Nemo and put them in bed and sing them to sleep.
  • Crap, I just remembered I forgot to brush their teeth. The last thing they had to eat was M&M’s and root beer. Well, at least it is just their baby teeth, right?

So it was a good night. Now I just have nasty McDonald’s oniony breath and a pot belly from the rock of food that is now lodged in my lower intestine. My body has no idea what to do with it and is confused at why I would punish it like this when it is so good to me.

One thing I have to mention, when putting Heber to bed he said “Well Tammy, I still have a cough so I don’t know if we will be able to go have any fun tomorrow”. And then when he said his prayers, which he needs no help with, he said “Bless Tammy to drive home in safety and bless the driver of the plane for mom and dad to drive them home safely”. He obviously misses his parents. Tomorrow will be interesting, my plan is to ride the train to Salt Lake. We’ll see.

I just proof read this post. I am now feeling really guilty about the awful food I fed to my sweet nephews. Definitely pepperoni and eggs for breakfast!

  1. I seriously love reading, ( I almost put eating) your posts! you need to write a book. I ate at sonic today, the second time this week i have had fast food and I just saw an add for a new sandwich at Arby’s and think I might swing by tomorow. I don’t know how to spell tomorow because there is a red line under it, I hate those red lines, reminding me how dumb I really am.

  2. You are so cute tammy! My girls think you are the best aunt ever (tough comptetition with Marie) You can babysit my girls for the weekend and feed them junk food without brushing their teeth any time you want to.

  3. I feel as if I was there… only I wasn’t :( Sounds like it was so fun:)
    I love hearing Heber prayers!

  4. You crack me up Tammy! I love the way you paint a picture of your day and I love how much you can love other people’s children. You are going to be such a great mom!

  5. Very cute Tam! Heber is a doll. I wish I could put all his cuteness in a package and wrap it up in a pretty box.
Yes, you are the official Favorite Aunt! I’m jealous but you do deserve the title. ~marie

  6. Ignore that last comment about never posting my comments. I .. uh… was looking on the WRONG post. :)

  7. First of all you didn’t do too bad at least they ate and second that’s what Aunts are for. Let their parents worry about what to feed them!
